Job Type: Hourly, Full Time (40hrs), 1st Shift

Hours vary between 6:15am-3:45pm to ensure quality coverage for staff

Position Summary:

This is a hands-on role that involves collaboration with the Quality Manager, engineers, and machinists to ensure superior quality parts are being produced. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced person to champion these duties, and help maintain the workflow of the quality lab. The Quality Inspector will be the primary employee at Rochester Gear to perform daily first piece inspections, and sampling within job sequences throughout the day. They will also operate gear inspection equipment and implement knowledge of gear inspection techniques and procedures.

We are seeking the right person to continue a long-term career of applied inspection, and advance their technical skills and experience evaluating the gears we manufacture.

Rochester Gear has received a Certificate of Registration #FM 538284, which complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for incoming, first piece, in-process and final inspections of parts.
  • Collaborate and report to Quality Manager on work flow status and equipment needs.
  • Perform calibration and training, when Quality Manager is unable to do so.
  • Be ready and willing to manually measure dimensions, such as lengths, diameters, runout, and gear features using micrometers, height stands, redline machines, and indicators.
  • Have a working knowledge of optical comparators and coordinate measuring equipment (cmm)
  • Sets up inspection equipment to ensure accuracy, and maintain inspection records.
  • Reads blueprints or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Understanding of heat treat, plating and material, with the ability to read certifications.
  • Recommend corrections, in addition to communicating with engineering staff on gear forming machines to eliminate defects.
  • Validate own work to ensure quality, and follow company safety procedures; uses equipment and materials properly.

Skills and Qualifications of Experience:

· Background conducting inspection in a metal working environment is required.

· Minimum 5-year experience in a manufacturing environment (machine shop preferred)

· Experience with machining, metal fabrication, engineering, or metallurgy is desired.

· STRONG aptitude and experience with correlating prints and GD&T to actual inspection methods is a must.

· Ability to use hand tools for inspection such as (but not limited to) micrometers, calipers, and depth mics is a must.

· Experience with CMM and gear coordinate measuring machine is preferred.

· Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and desire to continuously improve on skill set and technical knowledge.

· Lift 25lbs of weight

Swiss Machinist

Location: Rochester Gear EAST: 5290 North St, Canandaigua, NY 14424

Job Type: Hourly, Full Time (40hrs), 1st Shift
Choose hours from 6:00am – 4:30pm

Position Summary:

Job shop Swiss machinist and lathe machinist running and inspectingmixed production. The ability to take initiative and work independently is a must. Quality first mentality is vital to this position! The shop is air conditioned, relaxed work environment, and foreman works same shift and alongside machinists to assist with projects, and training regarding processes. We are seeking the right person to build (or continue) a long-term career in machining, and advance their technical skills. This branch of Rochester Gear is located in Canandaigua, and currently has fewer than five employees. We are looking to grow our workforce with motivated machinists who are looking to further develop their career.

Job Functions and Qualifications Required:

  • Must have direct experience with running manual or CNC machines, either through
    school or industry.
  • Must have ability to set up Swiss machines, including familiarity with guide bushing
    adjustment and Swiss collets
  • Must be able to read and understand basic prints & dimensions. Including lengths,
    diameters, counterbores, threads, and simple milled features.
  • Formal education at BOCES/ high career program, or post-secondary education is
    preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable in manufacturing environment and working directly with machine tools.
  • Lift 25lbs overhead and stand on feet 75% of the day.

Machinist will develop proficiencies from list below. Training will be provided:
Lathe Tasks:

  • 1x Tsugami BE20 and 1x S206
  • 3 X Okuma LB3000 MYW’s running up to 3” bars
  • 1 X Okuma LT2000 with 10” chuck.
  1. Ability to keep multiple machines running throughout the day.
  2. Attention to detail and ability to inspect diverse mix of parts.
  3. Ability to make offsets to tools and validate the changes.

Inspection and print reading proficiency:

  1. Plate inspection. Including use of dead centers, optical comparator, height stands, gage pins, thread gages. Will treat gages with respect.
  2. Print reading knowledge. GD&T and more advanced training will be provided.
  3. Shop math skills. Addition, subtraction, determining in-process inspection dimensions to consistently run quality parts.
  4. Able to interpret older prints.
  5. Responsible for in process inspection and first piece double check of jobs that have been
    set up.

PM

  1. Ensure work area, machine, and tools are kept clean and free of swarf and excess dirt buildup.
  2. Other basic maintenance skills a plus, but not a requirement.

Side Work

  1. Keep material area organized and assist with inventory management.
