Position Title: Swiss Machinist Job Description

Reports to: Swiss Machinist Job Description

Job Type: Hourly, Full Time (40hrs), 1st Shift

Position Summary: Job shop machinist running mixed production. There will typically be between 3 and 5 setups per week, on 3 machines. The ability to take initiative and work independently is a must. Quality first mentality is vital to this position! The shop is air conditioned, relaxed work environment, and engineer is on staff at shop to assist with questions and training regarding processes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Comfortable in manufacturing environment and working directly with machine tools
  • Lift 25lbs over heard, and stand on feet 75% of the day
  • Demonstrate proficiencies from list below, in a reasonable time frame

Required Experience:

Swiss Machine Proficiency:

  1. Tsugami experience desired, but not required.
  2. Ability to determine and make offsets. Candidate must be able to troubleshoot, adjust offsets and change tooling to keep quality parts running.
  3. Candidate must be able to operate more than one machine at a time.
  4. Ability to setup and run small lot sizes: 50-2,000 pcs are typical lot sizes.  Up to 15,000 pcs.
  5. Ability to indicate tools under .0003” TIR for reaming and solid carbide drilling.
  6. Critical thinking & troubleshooting skills. Candidate must have good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering regarding production issues.
  7. Able to run through programs carefully using dry run and other methods to ensure safe machine operation.

 


 

Position Title: Machinist: Parallel Axis Gear Cutter / Bevel Gear Cutter

Reports to:                              Manufacturing Supervisor

Job Type:                                Hourly, Full Time (40hrs), 1st Shift

                                                8-hrs each day, within range of 6:15am – 4:30pm  

Overtime available based on performance

Position Summary:  Operate gear cutting equipment, perform setups based on print requirements and ensure quality throughout production process. Perform PM, in process inspection, first piece inspection and apply critical thinking to machining process.

Essential Job Functions:        

  • Operate and maintain gear cutting equipment. This includes operating more than one machine at a time.
  • Measures workpieces as a guide for subsequent machining to ensure constant quality.
  • Based on print select workholding, cutting tools, align fixtures and tooling using best practices on gear cutting equipment. Similar experience on machine tools is acceptable.
  • Verify gear geometry based on print specifications using hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height stands.
  • Experience with gear red-line machines is a bonus.
  • Sets up and operates machine to safely produce and inspect first piece
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Follows company safety procedures; while using equipment.
  • Communicates with coworkers and supervisor to receive instruction and coordinate activities.
  • Must be capable of critical thinking to ensure part quality throughout production run

 

Skills and Qualifications of Experience:

  • Experience with manual or CNC machines is required either through school or industry.
  • Must maintain quality while multi-tasking.
  • Reasoning skills are a must! Must be able to apply logical problem-solving skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and desire to continuously improve on skill set and technical knowledge. 

 


 

 

Position Title:                     Quality Inspector at Rochester Gear, Inc.

Reports to:                              Quality Control Manager

Job Type:                                Hourly, Full Time (40hrs), 1st Shift

                                                Hours vary between 6:15am-4:30pm to ensure quality coverage for staff

 

Position Summary: 

The Quality Inspector is the primary defender against shipping out-of-spec parts. They will perform first piece reports, and random sampling within job sequences. The Quality Inspector will operate gear inspection equipment and implement knowledge of gear inspection techniques and procedures.

Rochester Gear has received a Certificate of Registration #FM 538284, which certifies that the company operates a Quality Management System which complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reads blueprints or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Have a working knowledge of optical comparators and coordinate measuring equipment (cmm)
  • Understanding of heat treat, plating and material, with the ability to read certifications.
  • Measures dimension, such as length, height, and distance between reference points, using precision instruments.
  • Responsible for incoming, first run, in-process and final inspections of parts.
  • Sets up inspection equipment to ensure accuracy, and maintain inspection records.
  • Recommends corrections, in addition to communicating with engineering staff on gear forming machines to eliminate defects.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Follows company safety procedures; uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Takes initiative to communicate with co-workers and supervisors to assist moving parts throughout the shop

 

Skills and Qualifications of Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to correlate prints and GD&T to actual inspection methods is a must!
  • Depth of knowledge reading prints.
  • Comfortable using hand tools for inspection such as (but not limited to) micrometers, calipers, and depth mics
  • Experience with CMM and gear coordinate measuring machine is not required, but greatly valued and preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and desire to continuously improve on skill set and technical knowledge.
