Community Involvement

RIT Baja program

RIT Baja Program

Rochester Gear is a long time sponsor of the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Baja Team! Baja SAE is a collegiate design series sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). RIT Baja has an extensive history of being a top ten team on a national level out of hundreds of schools throughout the country. Each year, a new vehicle is designed, fabricated, and built to compete in dynamic competitive events and judged on design and manufacturing efficiencies. Rochester Gear is proud to support and sponsor the RIT Baja Team.

RIT Cooperative education program

Cooperative Education Program with RIT

For over a decade, Rochester Gear has provided paid learning opportunities for RIT students to engineer and manufacture gears. RIT’s cooperative education program is designed for students to work and learn in real-world settings, interact with industry experts, and explore professional work environments. Rochester Gear has also hired several RIT graduates as full-time faculty.

FAQs

Yes, we specialize in producing custom gears for the automotive, military, aerospace, and other demanding industries. We are trusted by companies of all sizes, from prototype projects to high-volume production, to meet their specialized gear requirements. To get started, please use our online quote request form.

Beyond custom gear manufacturing, Rochester Gear provides a comprehensive suite of services. Our capabilities include reverse engineering of existing components, bevel gear design using advanced Gleason systems, and in-depth gear inspection with our state-of-the-art GMM analyzer. We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer.

No, we do not maintain a public inventory of gears for sale. As a made-to-order gear manufacturer, we produce every part based on customer-supplied prints and specifications. For established, routine orders, we can maintain an inventory as a value-added service. We also offer engineering and design services to help with your project from concept to completion.

Lead times for custom gear fabrication typically range from 8 to 20 weeks. Simpler projects, such as cut-teeth-only (CTO), have a shorter lead time of approximately 4-8 weeks. Complex projects requiring additional outside operations may take 8-20 weeks. We are committed to on-time delivery without compromising quality.

We do not have a minimum quantity for custom part orders. While a higher quantity generally results in a lower per-piece price, we evaluate each new project individually, with a focus on delivering high-quality, precise parts regardless of the order size.

A Cut-Teeth-Only (CTO) project is a service where customers provide us with their pre-machined blanks or partially finished parts. Rochester Gear then performs the final gear cutting operations to complete the project to the customer's exact specifications.

Yes, we are proud to support future engineers and offer assistance to collegiate teams, including Baja or Formula SAE, and First Robotic Clubs. We evaluate each project on a case-by-case basis. We encourage teams to contact us as early as possible to discuss project scope and lead time requirements.
